This painting by Keith Haring was created in the urban environment. I easily identify with it because I grew up in an urban area. The composition and coloring of it, reminds me of grafitti art in which I witnessed growing up. I enjoy grafitti art because of its aestethic but also more so because of its content and context. It has a powerful meaning and message behind it. This is why I identify with this painting. There is a lot of text within this image as well which evokes power alone. 

Identity

This is actually an image of myself that I took. I feel that the dynamics of the hallway makes the composition of the image strong. It is a bust length self portrait, in which captures me looking to the ceiling. It represents me well, because I am a person who ponders a lot on things, and dream, and imagine things because I am a creative person. I think of the future, which is kind of portrayed through the hallway effect. 

In this photograph, it is a photo of a man whom has covered more than 50,000 square feet of Philadelphia with mosaic murals. I know this is an unusual image to choose, but because this represents a vision he had, I immediately identify with it. He had a vision and it seems in this photograph especially, it spilled out of his brain into a room. The composition of shapes, reflects the different ideas he had, and it pours out onto the floor as well. I have a vision for my artwork and my photography, and it literally could fill a couple of rooms or certain square miles. In which I find it fascinating. I am of course a  visual person who visualizes her future, her work, her life, etc.

Powerful Picture

this image in my own opinion is powerful because it represents the compassion for a person in need of something. It is powerful due also to the contrast between the two hands. But yet there is also a bringing together of two people from two different sides of the world. IT is  a portrait, because two people are represented or people are represented even through their hands.

This is obviously a family portrait of the the Obama family. This family portrait is sort of formal but more realized due to the posing and body language between the children and the parents. There clothing is casual and you can tell that the daughter in the green has a closer relationship with her dad, and then the daughter in the blue has a closer relationship to her mother. It is outdoors, so it contributes to the idea that they seem like a relaxed family, and they are adventurous.

Concept or Literal

This fits into the literal category in my eyes, because it represents who he is as  a person. It's more realistic in explaining his status and what he loves to do due to the paint brushes and easel.


This painting fits into the concepts less expected way of expecting him to be portrayed. He is portrayed unusually with his hair over his forehead and his eyes not fully visible, and dark which has a concept behind it of darkness or shadows.

John Travolta

John Travolta as a baby. This image is revealing a point in time where he didn't know what was going on, and a picture was just taken of his innoncence.

This is a picture capturing him in a scene of one of his famous films Grease. It shows his fame and his dedication to his work/career as an actor.

This is him now in old age clapping at an event. It just seems to capture him being happy and content with his life.

Diego Rivera Portrait

I chose this image as a portrait of Diego Rivera because it captures essentially what he was all about. He was a painter and it shows him at work. He was very influential in the art era, and I thought this would be a great photo that emphasized that. This is what he do.

The medium being used here is a portraiture of Paul Cezanne . There is a human present and that human is Cezanne. It is an oil painting because in this painting much detail is being depicted and it has more smoother strokes.  His face is in 3/4 view with his gaze at the viewer. This is a bust length portrait as well, because it goes to the top of his chest. 

Self Portrait

This is a self portrait of myself. I feel in this photo that it is a very serious photo. I am looking into the camera, not meanly, but in a somber tone. I am in my dorm room around my bed post, so it's very intimate in a sense. There is a deeper sense of intimacy because of the pose and the expression of the face and the idea of it being inside of a dorm room. The lighting helps that as well, obviously there is some thought going on in this photograph and/or portrait.

Contact : This one has contact to me because it is showing more intense emotion. You would look at this image and go "whats wrong?" or thats so sad. It displays a lot of energy. it zeros you in and makes you begin to question whats going on.

No contact: This one has no contact because he has a blank stare. There is nothing going on in this picture. It doesn't really draw you in. Not a lot of energy going in this picture. And also it doesnt cause you to question "whats going on" in this picture.

The definition of a portrait in my own eyes is anything that represents a person. It can include certain things such as the person and objects that represents what they are or what they enjoy doing. (Portraiture 25). Also, anything that captures the gist of a person's personality is a portait in my eyes. This could include a painting of them, a photograph, etc. A portrait is also  anything that "engages the identity of the sitter represented" (Portraiture 29). Even the way you position the person being represented can tell the viewer something about their personality or status.
